Clifford Odets'in tek perdelikoyunu, eserdeki taksi şoförlerinin ekonomik yönden içler acısı durumunu vebazıları geriyedönüşlerle anlatılan ve onları greve gitmeye götüren bir diziolayı anlatır. Burjuva tiyatrosu fikrini, uygulamasını ve estetiğini yadsıyanve Agitprop özellikleriyle argümanlarını öncelikle ekonomik ve sosyal değişimibaşlatmak için destekleyen Lefty'i Beklerken, ezilen insanların kötü yaşamkoşullarını tasvir ederek ve yozlaşmış sendika ilişkilerini açığa vurarakinsanları harekete geçirmek için çağrıda bulunur. Çalışma, tarihsel ve kültürelkoşulları ve eseri oluşturan dünya görüşünü serimleyip Lefty'i Beklerken oyunuiçin teorik bir özet oluşturarak Amerikan Tiyatrosu'nun önemli eserlerindenbirinde Agitprop özelliklerini göstermeyi amaçlar ; Waiting for Lefty, which was written by CliffordOdets during the Great Depression of the thirties, has become not only anemblematic play of Agitprop Theatre but also it proves to be an emotional andpolitical catharsis on the part of the audience. Clifford Odets' one-act playnarrates the story of cabdrivers' heart-rending economic situation and the seriesof actions, some of which are narrated in the form of flashbacks, which leadthem to go on strike. Rejecting the conception, application and aesthetics ofbourgeois theatre and backing its arguments for the instigation of primarilyeconomic and social change by the aid of Agitprop features, Waiting for Leftycalls for mobilizing people by collective endeavor through the depiction of thedismal life conditions of the down-trodden people and corrupt union affairs. Bypresenting historical and cultural circumstances and perspective of weltanschauung which shape the play and drawinga theoretical synopsis for Waiting for Lefty, the study aims to display theagitprop features in one of the landmark play of American theatre

; Postcolonialism deals with the issues such as Orientalist discourse, loss of culture, identity, ethnicity, oppression and their portrayal in the modern era. As an academic discipline, it adopts a deconstructionist attitude and it questions what the colonized do and how s/he behaves when s/he is confronted by the colonizer. Although it is hard to pinpoint the starting date of Colonialism, which is the former version of Postcolonialism, it can be asserted that it gained momentum in the late 19th century. While Colonialism is a more crude form of exploitation of the Oriental countries mostly exemplified by military expeditions, Postcolonialism is an academic and cultural endeavor to reveal a more subtle version of social degradation, political manipulation and textual distortion. Postcolonial age, which is marked by the Declaration of Indias Independence, leads postcolonial studies to criticize romanticized adventure stories of the West about Oriental countries and Occidents embedded ideology in them. Within the frame of Postcolonial studies, Palestinian-American scholar Edward Said wrote his famous work Orientalism, in which he criticizes Western based representation of the East and highlights how knowledge and discourse are linked with power to define and name the Orient. The objective of this study is to introduce Colonialism and primarily Postcolonialism, its major representatives and elicit their arguments to deconstruct the Eurocentric vision and mission enforced against the Orient.

Epic theater, which is formed by Bertolt Brecht in the early 20th century and peaks in the following decades, challenges the persistent drama convention initiated first by Aristotle. Bertolt Brecht, who is propelled by Marxist convictions and dialectical conception of history while shaping his epic theatre, aims to expose social degradation, economic exploitation and political manipulation by means of epic plays. Brecht, who tries to thwart the illusion of the fourth wall through epic theatre, encourages his audience into critical and interventionist thinking so that he can warn them who have been deceived for ages under the excuse of inevitability of human fate. Acting on Brecht's innovative art and legacy, socialist feminist Caryl Churchill deals with such themes as fixed gender roles, patriarchy and power relations and she employs Brechtian epic devices in her works to deconstruct colonialist discourse and patriarchal authority after having demonstrated their connections with sexist discriminations and oppression. The objective of this study is to introduce the main features of Brechtian epic theatre and demonstrate how Caryl Churchill deploys these epic elements in Cloud Nine to disclose power relations and instigate tolerance and social change.
